COVID-19: Personal Update 2020-03-08 From Kirkland WA

Posted 03-08-2020 at 10:20 PM by Blondebaerde

CORONAVIRUS

A deadly new virus from China, which causes respiratory illness and pneumonia, is spreading around the world. CDC calls it COVID-19. I live in Kirkland, WA, about two miles due south of the outbreak's original epicenter, with multiple cases and the first substantial (10+) deaths.

(Caveat: one man, one IT worker, one opinion: I have no extra info over and above, one commentary only):

Reading about Italy. Only a week ago, their cases expanded quite a bit. A few geometric progressions since then...yeah, they're quarantined.

Gov Inslee could...could...throw a tarp on Kirkland or any number of places with a phone call to the 'Guard General in this state. They'd have troops enforcing a quarantine is (guessing) 24 - 72 hrs.

As (someone) mentioned, if the word "shall" is issued, I guess they'd start with the cops, and asking "full stop" of everyone: no this, no that, no the other thing. As of dusk (today).

Stores would clean out, and may yet. Personally I'm shopping weekly, and buying two week's stuff every time I'm out. Seems prudent. Extra canned goods are not going to waste here, lots of soup, beans, rice, pasta, and ravioli in my menu past ten days. Just did that today, got some hand sanitizer, paper towels, and more butt wipe, too. Just a bit more, no hoarding here as I for once do believe the concept of "fair share" applies.

Some times I have like 40 rolls TP. Bad me. Not hoarding, but just ends up that way. I have enough wipes and bleach to keep clean in this house, not hoarding those either, see previous.

I think when there are thousands and thousands of cases something like this may happen, a clampdown or Italy-like quarantine. I think that's a very tough call by the Gov, whom I don't like but is paid to handle emergencies. And that would come in from the Exec Branch of the Feds, too, who would be just as reluctant.
