Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

For I-14 In Texas, Branches May Have To Buy A Letter

If only you could work for the Federal Highway Administration and AASHTO and have Vanna White from the "Wheel Of Fortune" game show stop in and assist with the future numbering system for our nation's highways. With the following scenario, I doubt we'll need to buy a vowel....
Interstate 14 only runs from Belton to Copperas Cove at present. In the future, the highway is expected to split at Brady, Texas. That means that we will have another interstate which begins with branches. Sound familiar? If you've followed I-69 like I have, then you'll see why. With the debate over which branch should get the mainline I-14 route, perhaps, officials need to take a closer look at I-69's makeup. That route will start with three branches, dissolving into two, and then one, with the mainline I-69 actually beginning after 69E and 69W merge together at Victoria. Such could happen with I-14, and having the mainline route begin at Brady. Setting it up like that would cease any vestige of debate and get things better established. Two branches west of Brady will merge into one. What shall the powers that be name the branches?
Prediction: I-14N and I-14S. That's right, north and south. It'd be sillyboots having it any other way. So, with that arrangement, those mile markers as they exist now would have to be changed, and they would have to reflect the mileage to the proposed Y junction at Brady.
Look, I know that this may be years away because we've got to finish I-69 in Texas and a few other states to tie in with completed segments in Indiana. Note the America's Transportation Infrastructure Act of 2019. Maybe something out of that can bring some relief for a badly-needed corridor.

The alternative to letters would have been I-x14, beginning with either 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9. I'm not enamored with that idea to go with branches.
