My Personal Interpretation of the City-Data Forum's Terms and Conditions
Posted 02-21-2020 at 05:51 PM by HiToYou
I post this here as my own personal, easy-to-understand, and easy-to-reference behavior guide for the City-Data Forum.
As long as I am ^not^ specific with respect to person, company, organization, or location, then no one can legitimately allege that I am guilty of unsolicited advertising, or of influencing what is bought and sold, either by a specific entity or in a specific location. As long as I am being general enough such that greater specificity is possible, then I am worthy of innocent status, with respect to the subject of advertising.
This interpretation of mine then means, for example, that I would be guilty of unsolicited advertising if I were--notice my use of the subjunctive--to post, in a thread such as "What music are you listening to right now?", a link to a YouTube video of a specific artist. What others do and get away with makes no difference: As long as I abide by the logic and sound thinking of my personal interpretation, then I will be giving the owner or owners of the City-Data Forum ^no^ reason to censor me or to remove me from participation in the forum. Whether the owner or owners of the City-Data Forum violate the logic and sound thinking of my interpretation is favorably outside the scope of my concern. ^My^ law says that I am prohibited from posting links to YouTube videos and is powerful enough to accommodate the demands of the City-Data Forum. End of. They have their laws; I have mine. If I want to post in that thread, then I can make one visit (only) and type something like "I am listening to Rock, Pop, Choral, Country, and Vocal Trance right now." (Might I anger someone by mentioning Vocal Trance? Perhaps I should reconsider. . . . )
Additionally, I must post in such a way as to strive to discourage the stoking of emotions, so as to ensure that I perpetually aim to minimize others' anger.
I will have to use something like ^this^ to show emphasis, instead of uppercase letters, because the public apparently is easily upset by uppercase letters. Italics are unacceptable to me, because they violate ^my^ terms and conditions. Favorably, what I type in my private text files does not fall under this City-Data Forum requirement. It is so odd that, when I was a kid, uppercase letters were actually called "block letters" and greatly touted by the government, and that my culture to this day has a very high opinion of block letters. Thankfully, I can enjoy my culture privately and do ^this^ publicly.
I will have to search for what I want to post before I post it, or someone may allege that I am posting what has already been posted, and that I . . . should be censored or removed or both.
In short, I must advertise nothing, repeat nothing, compete not, argue not, and constantly strive to upset no one, or I will be inviting censorship or removal or both--and possibly even other unfavorable actions.
By the way, I found this rather useful:

How to clear the "Status updates" history list: Enter a status of "N/A" without the quotation marks; save it; click the browser's refresh button; click the link that says "Reset status history"; click the link that says "View your 'About Me' as seen by everyone else"; and see that the "Status updates" history list shows nothing more than, for example, "N/A - Today 11:36 PM."
