Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case In The Kitchen Again --- And Something New

I only said, for this Christmas luncheon at work, that I would just bring macaroni salad. Well, when a co-worker bringing the green beans tomorrow is absent today, it motivated me to initiate an idea.

So, we needed another green vegetable for the luncheon. I was already bringing something cold, already prepared at the local Market Street, but I needed to still come up with something hot to bring an added flair to our food groupings for Hump Day. That same Market Street I was shopping at a day ago is the one I decided to drop into to find a good spinach dish, either frozen or prepared. Couldn't really find anything, not even a spinach souffle. In the grocer's freezer were some steamable greens (spinach, chard, and kale), and that was the light bulb I needed. Leave it to my smartphone to help me with a few other ideas, and although I didn't need to spend more money, it'd be worth it. Chopped spinach, greens, plus butter, garlic, chopped onions, cream, and cream cheese. Those ingredients will all come together in my kitchen for homemade creamed greens. How's that for creativity? Oh, and as for the absent co-worker, he'd better be there tomorrow, anyway, not just for his wonderful green beans, but also for his shrimp fondeaux.

What a surprise this would be once this gets put together. Now, I await whatever protein the bosses bring. Wednesday at work is sure to be great and talked about, hopefully, for some time to come. That is, until we get to Ugly Christmas Sweater Day....

As for the co-worker who had been absent, word has it that one of his kids is in the hospital. He still hasn't been back at work, but right now, he has other priorities. Thoughts and prayers for him, please, y'all.
