Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

How NOT To Get Donut Coating All Over You

Posted 11-16-2019 at 08:12 PM by case44

Yes, that's right. Now, don't laugh at the title just yet. Things do happen to people when they eat donuts.

A recent trip to Round Rock, Texas, to have the legendary Round Rock Donuts only proves my point. But this particular visit was not to be predicted, as I did not order the full, round, glazed donuts with that yellow/orange, sugary coating that gets on the seat and the seat belt and the wheel and my pants, on and on. By the way, I'd stay in the car parked at Starbucks with a latte and eat the contents there. No, your writer did this instead: donut holes. Besides, what better excuse to get kolaches?

So, the folks at the drive-thru gave me a few more than a dozen donut holes. This was more than a baker's dozen. This was about sixteen! The trick was to hold the bag directly under my chin so that none of the sugary stuff would drop on my shirt and any other thing I've mentioned in this space. What happens? A few tiny specks of stuff did drop on my shirt, but I successfully swept them away. The bag did work, and all I had to do was hold it under my chin while I was carefully munching on those donut holes. It's hard not to get stuff on you, no matter what. I've had worse. All in all, it had been a successful road trip visit and still getting that great Round Rock Donuts flavor. And the latte and the sausage kolaches were also good.

Like I've said before, it is amazing what you can accomplish when you have a clear-cut objective.

And they've got great kolaches. Try any of them. Real Central Texas sausage, too.
