Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

World Series Storylines Coming Back To H-Town: And Here Are The 'Natinals'
Who would have thought that the team that once got mistaken team spelling on their newly-ordered uniforms would make it into a World Series? For want of a better observation, this is the second Fall Classic with two former expansion teams and also the first with two teams sharing the same Spring Training facility.
Yes, sports fans, my Houston Astros have made it back to the World Series, this time against the Washington Nationals, one of the National League's Wild Card entries. At one time, the two used to be the Houston Colt .45s and the Montreal Expos. How times change. The former saw a name change coinciding with the opening of the old Astrodome, and the latter was Canada's first major league baseball team, but who would be moved to Washington, D.C. in 2005. One of the more notable moments (but admittedly forgotten by many) was in 2009 when the Nationals got uniforms brought to them with a letter missing from them. It spelled out Natinals. That's why I sometimes refer to these guys as the Natinals.
Get your scorecards and your popcorn ready, everyone. We've got the Astros and the Nats in Houston at Minute Maid Park for the big dance. Several possible future Hall-of-Famers are going to be playing in this series. There will be a lot of storylines. There will certainly be pitching. There will be some offense, but will the Astros offer more than they have this entire postseason? We will find out as we watch this World Series together.
Altuve. Rendon. Springer. Turner. Scherzer. Greinke. Verlander. Strasberg. Corbin. Bregman. Soto. Correa. Cole.
This will be a Series to behold for sure. And my prediction: Astros in 6.
Enjoy the games.

I hope the Astros can recover from Game 1. A lot of things just didn't seem right about it, but hopefully, Verlander will right the ship in Game 2.
That was a great Yankees series, too.Posted 10-23-2019 at 05:01 PM by malfunction -
It's actually becoming a real series when it looked early on like the Astros were going into a funk to where the unthinkable might end up happening.
Now we've got the Fall Classic knotted at two games apiece, guaranteeing this series having a Game 6 at Minute Maid Park. Also notable is that the road team has won every game. I hope that trend holds up for one more game before the Astros try to break the trend on Tuesday.Posted 10-27-2019 at 09:07 AM by case44 -
Lots of great headlines from Game 5. Another great diving play by Yuli Gurriel. Three more home runs by Astros players. The guy in the left center seats held onto his beer as a home run by Yordan Alvarez landed in his chest. We even had our great President Trump in attendance at the game. And that same beer-holding guy lost his cap by the time Juan Soto of the Nationals hit his home run.
And the negative news (for the Natinals) is what happened to Max Scherzer, one of their ace starting pitchers. He couldn't shake off neck and back problems to the point that his wife had to help him put his clothes on yesterday morning. Because of this, he could not make his scheduled start against the Astros in Game 5.Posted 10-28-2019 at 02:45 PM by case44 -
On the Gurriel play, this was the second time in as many games he's had to dive into first base to tag the base and beat the runner to it. Both times, that runner was Trea Turner.
