Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case Gets On TV During A Stop To Buy A Baseball Ticket

Posted 08-22-2019 at 08:41 PM by case44

You just never know with vacations.

It's not every day that a traveler arrives in a city and immediately gets asked to interview for a morning news show on television. So, after The Case purchases his ticket for Monday night's Houston Astros-Detroit Tigers game, a KIAH cameraman stops me and I obliged. There was KIAH-TV (Channel 39) doing a brief round of questions about the Astros' recent decision to implement new extended netting to protect fans at Minute Maid Park along the first and third base lines in the lower bowl. Earlier in the year, a little 2-year-old was badly injured by a vicious foul ball hit into the bowl, and that prompted this decision. The cameraman asked Case the questions and I responded as intelligently as possible on each. I was then featured on a 7 a.m. segment of the show "Morning Dose" this past Tuesday.

Now, don't bother trying to look for the footage on YouTube or on KIAH's website. You won't find it, but you will find another segment with another interviewee on the latter. No, this doesn't happen every day or on every vacation, but this makes up for the footage I missed in Lubbock a few years ago. That was my Evie Mae's BBQ visit, where a KLBK-TV (Channel 13) camera and reporter were there to visit the big lunch crowd there. Formal grand opening? No, there were no quips or quotes from me, but they had to have had a glimpse of me waiting in line....

Never mind that. The Houston stop was way better. And they got my name right and the fact that I am an Astros fan. Sounds satisfying to me.

Wow!!! You're a celebrity now, Case!

And the Astros won that game, too, if I've read you correctly. I'd say that was a hell of a trip.
