Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Astros In (Mostly) Good Standing, But Need Pitching Help
Posted 07-08-2019 at 09:26 AM by case44
In the standings, the Houston Astros are pretty much where they need to be. But if you think that the Astros are going to stand pat for the July 31, then I think you may be smoking some serious weed. ![Big Grin](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
GM Jeff Luhnow always comes up with something. Offensively and defensively, I don't think Houston should make any moves there. They could use more pitching. Lately, they brought up the number 29 prospect, Jose Uriquidy, to try to patch up a starting rotation that's had problems after number three. He has not met expectations, having not made it out of the fourth inning in all of his starts. Lefty Framber Valdez was supposed to be part of the Astros' future, as he's had lots of ceiling. He has disappointed, too. In fact, the only Houston lefthander that's been consistent this year has been Wade Miley. They need another lefty in the rotation and at least one in the bullpen. Right now, however, they might not be able to, as Bleacher Report is making a prediction on who the Astros might pick up before the July 31 trade deadline.

Aaron Sanchez? Hmmmm. I'm not so sure, but that doesn't mean he's not capable. He did have one really good season, and that was in '16, having gone 15-2 for the Toronto Blue Jays and was a Cy Young finalist. What could Astros' pitching coach Brent Strom do for Sanchez? Who knows? Remember, this team resurrected the careers of Charlie Morton and Collin McHugh, so it's possible that Sanchez could fit the mold. As it is, the Astros need better production from the fourth and fifth starters if they plan on staying in contention.
Anyhow, stay tuned. In the meantime, the Astros have plenty to boast about with the way things are now, at 57-33 while we pause for the All-Star break.

Hey, that Home Run Derby is tonight, sports fans. Alex Bregman will be among the participants. Some experts are predicting that he'll win it. We'll find out.

With all those All-Stars, you guys will have a good showing tomorrow night. I think you may be right about Bregman; he's real aggressive and I like his style. Cardinals still have a chance to break out. That NL Central is so weak this year, and I'm just glad the Astros aren't in it.

Suddenly this may not be far-fetched. Zach Wheeler was rumored to be possibly dealt to the Astros, but now, he's injured. What was far-fetched? The possibility that the New York Mets may have to part with Noah Syndergaard. Imagine him in an Astros uniform.

I really do not want to see Trevor Bauer in an Astros uniform. He'll be too much of a distraction. I mean, he just chucked a ball into center field at the end of his last start. Plus, his tangles with Alex Bregman would not be good for this tight clubhouse.
