Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Restaurant Musings And The Eternal Question: Is Everything Okay?

Life is so comical sometimes. So is eating out. Now, the people who work in these places have to make sure things go just the right way for customers. The problem is, waiters and waitresses can't really sit next me while I'm waiting, let alone read my mind.

I bring this up because I can't get over something that I've seen happen too many times in my cafe life. What's that, you ask? Well, as soon as my food arrives at my table, if I have multiple plates / bowls, then I get them set up so that I can start eating. I barely take one bite this morning, and already, my waitress stops by and asks, "Does everything taste great?" She was juuuuuuust a bit early. Sure, she's only doing her job, but let's be a bit reasonable here. Just BS with her and tell her everything is fine. Dang, I only had taken one bite. One. And I get that question. At least, everything on my plates looked okay. It was breakfast at OldWest Cafe, and it consisted of only two plates, plus my coffee cup. Sometimes at other visits, I'll have three plates or two plates and a bowl, depending largely on what's ordered for that morning. Once inside, I eat breakfast and see a wonderful bunch of young ladies there. Loyalty. But it doesn't stop craziness from happening.

Breakfast today was very good, and no questions needed to be asked. My waitress just needed to give it five minutes. If something really were wrong, then I'd flag her down and point whatever it is out. Nothing beats telling my server what a good job he/she did, and that I've had some incredible food. Question or no question, everybody wins.

And when everybody's happy,...............well, you know....

It's like, lift your fork into your mouth, and the very moment it goes in, waitress asks, "How's everything? Is everything okay?" Perhaps I need to do a stunt with a future waitperson, but the timing has to be just right. Fork goes in, and when question is asked or about to be, fork goes right back out. Back and forth. Same thing if it's a drinking glass or a coffee cup. This ought to be great fun....
