Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I-69 Update: It Appears El Campo Bypass Is Half-Done

This writer can get addicted to Google Street View on Google Maps. So, this evening, I decided to take a peek at it. The focus, this time, is on U.S. Highway 59 and its bypass around El Campo, Texas.

Somehow, I don't remember seeing the western portion without at-grade crossings, but recent updates suggest that the highway has been upgraded to a full freeway. In fact, some guide signs have been placed on the freeway, some of them still covered up. So, basically, the portion of U.S. 59 from State Highway 71 to points west of there have seen tweaking to corridor standards. It's refreshing. A Google check reveals that a couple of intersections from the old highway actually had gotten taken out and would not be used as full interchange for a street that used to go all the way through. In fact, two separate frames revealed the intersection as it used to exist in 2013 from the feeder road perspective versus the 2018 frame taken from the freeway to reveal the after.

That's in stark contrast to the portion of highway east of 71. So far, no dirt is turned and no construction trucks were visible on Google. Not yet, anyway. Still, progress appears to have been made on U.S. 59 to make way for Interstate 69 through El Campo. What I cannot wait for is what the city will do surrounding the Mikeska Barbecue joint on the highway at Blue Creek Road. A lot of new development will eventually arrive in town once the interstate finally gets established, but there's much more work to be done. Once significant construction is completed in that county, up through Wharton and up near Rosenberg, we should be closer to the possibility of having that portion signed as I-69. I haven't seen an official word from the appropriate TXDOT office, but it's pure speculation.

Needless to say, I'm real pleased with the outcome of the bypass' western portion. It looks really good. The future, done right, will be bright.
