Posted 02-05-2019 at 11:37 PM by LoveMeSomeSFVHouses

If you're thinking of moving to Sherman Oaks, CA, here are some of the fun reasons why it might be a good neighborhood for you.

Housing prices in the San Fernando Valley are notoriously more affordable than the LA Basin, with a little more bang for your buck. In Sherman Oaks, it has an additional benefit of being located at the 405 and 101 freeway connection, allowing for easier commutability than other Valley neighborhoods.

Depending on where a home is located, one of the great things in the housing in Sherman Oaks is the views. A good section of Sherman Oaks resides in the Santa Monica Mountains and gives views of the rest of the San Fernando Valley. In 'the Flats', many homes showcase the play space and useable backyards that it's hard to find in the LA Basin. But no matter the location, Sherman Oaks is known for their great elementary schools.

Sherman Oaks has also become a destination for celebrity and affluent homeowners. Here they can get a lot more home for their dollar and live more extravagantly. With more affluent living in the area, top class restaurants and shopping have become regular destinations along Ventura Blvd. Practically just a stone’s throw from anywhere in the neighborhood can fantastic restaurants be found for any type of craving you may have. And if cooking is more of your thing, check out the Farmer’s Market on Tuesdays between 3PM and 8PM.

If you’re looking for a good place to spend some money, head down to the Sherman Oaks Galleria. With over 11 restaurants, a movie theater, and tons of shops, the Galleria provides a great place to have a one-stop shop or a day of people watching. For those still looking for a mall but aren’t willing to face the crowds at the Galleria, try Westfield’s Fashion Square Mall instead. During the summer, Fashion Square even hosts outdoor movies for patrons to watch. If you prefer more of a personal experience, try any of the Mom and Pop shops lining Ventura. There are a ton of small local businesses to peruse.

Sherman Oaks knows how to have fun–and proves it by hosting the city ran Sherman Oaks Castle Park. Castle Park offers miniature golf, batting cages, and an arcade for resident amusement. But if you prefer to have some more time with the great outdoors, then Hazeltine Park or Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park are the places to be. Van-Nuys Sherman Oaks Park is a particular draw for residents with many rec center programs and community outreach. With an auditorium, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis, swimming pool, basketball–the most athletic neighbors can find something to do. The grounds also house playgrounds for the kiddos and the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Senior Citizen Center (Bernardi Center) so that no matter how young or old you are, there is something for you. And if you need an even better reason to get out of the house, once a year the Sherman Oaks City Council puts on a street fair with music, dancing, shops, crafting, and TONS of food.
