Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

One Restaurant Needing A Comeback: Sonny Bryan's BBQ

Posted 02-04-2019 at 10:45 AM by case44

It looked like, some twenty years ago, Sonny Bryan's Barbecue would expand past ten locations and, hopefully, some other Texas cities, as it had been a Dallas institution. They even built a location in Utah, of all places.

What is Sonny Bryan's today? It's still around, but it's been badly reduced to just five Dallas area locations, with just one outside of the city of Dallas. They used to have eateries in Fort Worth, Irving (Las Colinas), and Carrollton. For one reason or another, those locations have since closed, with the former two having lasted quite a long time. What do you think happened? If Sonny Bryan's had been successful and popular for as long as they have, then how do places like Fort Worth Alliance and Las Colinas shut down? Low business? Likely. Has to be.

Sure, things like that happen. But did Sonny Bryan's overbuild in the Dallas-Fort Worth area? Maybe, but what if they didn't? I believe that there are some locations where Sonny Bryan's can make a comeback of sorts. Here are Case's suggestions :

Fort Worth (TCU area): Why not? It's not far from the Will Rogers complexes and the new development on Chisholm Trail Parkway. It'd be a natural.

Rockwall at The Harbor: If the people who run The Harbor would like to add one more restaurant to their current mix, then I don't see why they couldn't add Sonny Bryan's. The eastern suburbs would welcome this Dallas institution to their fair burg.

Southlake: A location in the Town Center area could work very well. They don't really have a consistent barbecue joint in that entire complex. Sonny Bryan's would fit very nicely instead the usual, predictable spots like Spring Creek or Dickey's.

Arlington (South side, Arlington Highlands area): Restaurants have always done well in South Arlington and the Interstate 20 corridor. It is high time that Sonny Bryan's look at that area.

And, finally, Frisco: While it might be a risk to put them in Frisco Square, a place where there has been some turnover in recent years, it would be one worth taking. Considering the great history of Sonny Bryan's, the square would be perfect, even if they can get a free-standing pad site. People in the northern suburbs will be interested.

My stars, I haven't had Sonny Bryan's in too long. This writer needs to get back there.
