Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Even In Very High Winds, The Flag Still Flies Proudly
Last night, as I attended a high school basketball game, we had a cold front move through the area, and heavy winds preceded to blow. And then, I had this thought.
What if Old Glory didn't stay in place?
Yeah, I know; flags are tough enough and they've got rings and strong-enough attachments to keep them from breaking away in the harshest of weather conditions. But I also got to thinking of something else. That is this: Our American flag is still a symbol of strength, of unity. A strong nation. We still have a lot of pride in our great country, and this beautiful nation still has Old Glory flying proudly. In my home state of Texas, virtually every place I drive, I see flags waving at many businesses and homes. There's nothing like looking at an old-style house with a front porch, a rocking chair, and Old Glory.
Forget about all the strife and the problems that our culture is going through right now. I can push that aside. That's because I still live in the greatest nation in the world, and it flies the greatest flag in the world. Let's all take a moment to salute it...........right now.
I pledge allegiance to the flag
Of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty
And justice for all.
So let it be.![Smile](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

And that great show of patriotism actually was on full display Sunday at the Super Bowl. Did you catch Gladys Knight with the anthem? Woweeeeee! You'll never see another classic like that.
