Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Well, THIS Was Certainly A Late Change....

I guess, in this day and age, you read so many different sources about a restaurant opening up, and a date is given. Such was one which I read over a year and a half ago. Grapevine (TX) officials were excited about the opportunity to open Central Texas-based Salt Lick Barbecue in their fair city.................by late summer 2018!

Maybe I've read the wrong sources, or the powers that be just can't cut a deal. So, a few days ago, I looked at an article similar to the original one that I read regarding Salt Lick, with a lot of the same information. But this one had a twist: The date they put on this article for completion was late 2020! At least, now, that sounds more believable because a shovel still has not been pushed at the site of the new restaurant, supposedly a rustic setting next to a creek. No signs were put up, either.

Funny how we barbecue aficionados were promised something and then had the rug pulled out from under us. It's happened with Salt Lick before, when about ten years ago, it was believed that they would cut a deal to build a location near Joe Pool Lake in far south Grand Prairie, Texas. After much waiting for any kind of progress, well, no progress was ever made, and the project disappeared.

Which brings us to now. We were promised Salt Lick two years ago to open in 2018. No dirt turned. Look, I know there are lots of details like clearances from the city and all that, but let's keep a promise. Grapevine can't miss out on this home run of a barbecue deal. I hope the most recent article I've looked at, with the promise now of 2020, will come true.

I'll believe it when I see it, as they say. Meantime, I'll just continue to drive to Round Rock.
