Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Fine Dining Etiquette: Where Has It Gone?
Posted 01-11-2019 at 04:32 PM by case44
In the parlance of fancy restaurants, one would think that there'd have to be a strict dress code to be able to consume anything in such a place. It used to be that formal or semi-formal gatherings would be respected or revered, and, therefore, lived up to when people gather at a fine dining establishment.
Fast forward to 2019 now. I'm going to places like Brio or Bob's Steak & Chop House or some other fine eatery, and I notice a few people managing to show up in Hawaiian shirts or some real informal clothing. Or, perhaps, faded jeans that are nearly torn. Oh, and some parents actually have the gall to bring their small children....
What has happened to fine dining?? Have we lost our minds? There are times which I like to put something more dress-uppity when I go out. That's part having a diverse culture. Yes, I do understand that there are some places that combine casual with fine, and that's okay. But these real big sitdown places that cost one person about a hundred dollars for one meal, shouldn't some lines just be drawn here? Did we just relax too much here? Of course. Problem is, our younger generations just don't see the idea of mixing things up now and then. This isn't all millennials, but a growing number of them. A few in my generation are even doing it, too.
We need to cool it a little bit on getting too casual. I like to balance it out when we go through this thing called life. A little fine dining with a jacket here, and a little casual dining with the "more comfy" clothes in other places. Proper guidance has to take precedent at some point. There has to be a time and a place when one idea fits the mood of the day.
