Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Austin-Bergstrom Undergoing Big Makeover For Travelers

Posted 12-30-2018 at 12:32 PM by case44

It's been ongoing, I know, but I couldn't help but give pause and take a close look. Besides road work in Austin, Texas, their airport is taking on a makeover of its own.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has several projects going on, from the terminal to the taxiway to the surrounding economic development. With twenty years under its belt as an airport, ABIA has to prepare for the future and accommodate the area's booming growth, not to mention the city's strong business demand. The thing I'll like about this is that the number of gates are being added, but also, the existing gate numbers are being completely redone. That's exciting news. Plus, parking at Bergstrom will no longer be at a premium here. It will come in the form of a new garage. Vision and good planning fully at work here.

The following link will tell you all you need to know.

Improvements are underway at the Airport | Austin-Bergstrom International Airport | AustinTexas.gov - The Official Website of the City of Austin

And for those who need the big picture, here's the airport's website link, which includes their huge master plan.

This city has come a long way from Robert Mueller (and, no, not the idiot who is trying to go after President Donald Trump in a meaningless case) Municipal Airport. Quite a long way. And Bergstrom has come a decidedly long way from its days as an Air Force Base. The future of ABIA is very bright. Will it become a hub one day? If airports around the country can see a bounceback of some of these airlines, then Austin has a chance, especially with Southwest.

Austin-Bergstrom is celebrating twenty years this year, and it just seems like yesterday that they made their opening. Their effort to improve Central Texas air travel has not been in vain.
