Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Marshmallow-Hot Chocolate Rescue Caper

Posted 12-22-2018 at 04:20 PM by case44

Perhaps a real-life story can beat several fictitious Christmas stories on any given day. Just count on the holiday season to bring out the very best in a whole lot of people.

A friend of mine at work got me a Christmas gift to go with the Christmas card. It was a transparent, plastic Christmas ball ornament, and inside were some colored marshmallows and some cocoa mix. How about that, sports fans? Hot chocolate! I felt obliged to dig in, and I didn't care if it spoiled my supper, because how does one pass up hot chocolate? This writer wasn't going to, so here it goes. First, I had to get the ornament and pour out the mix and the marshmallows through the small, circular spout on top. I took the mug I would use to consume the prepared beverage, and I then poured the mix into the mug. The mix had no trouble coming out, but the poor marshmallows were trapped inside the ornament. Calling 9-1-1 was out of the question, so this writer had to get a trusty pair of scissors and cut through a portion of said container just to rescue the marshmallows, who had been suffocating inside the round confinement. Our gooey friends finally got free and into the cup. Now, it's time for the milk to be heated. Time for your computer chickenscratch specialist to search for a measuring up. A-ha!

Slight problem, however, and it was visible on the counter.

One measuring cup couldn't be used because it still had cayenne pepper stains on it from a recent cooking event. And who would want cayenne pepper in their hot chocolate? Let me have a show of hands; I asked, who would want to have cay-......

Nobody.

While I set that measuring cup aside for a wash (By the way, I had made some jambalaya a few mornings ago for the folks at work. Homemade, too, but I digress), I got a larger one that would be much better for the milk. Microwave time. About two minutes and fifty seconds, to be exact. And on high. When it was done, it immediately got poured for Ol' Case's enjoyment and stirred inside the mug. Those marshmallers were gettin' a little happy. The hot chocolate was then happy. And then your writer was happy. Hot chocolate on a....................sixty-degree day in North Texas!

Kitchen adventures are a blast when you let a little gift go a very long way.
