Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

A Great Idea To Replace Sears At Frisco's Stonebriar Centre
Posted 11-22-2018 at 02:14 PM by case44
In a little while, it's going to become an empty building in a big mall. For now, though, it's a lame duck Sears anchor store at Frisco's (Texas) Stonebriar Centre mall. The Sears chain recently closed on a national level after more than 100 years of service, so, now, one by one, stores are closing after they filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy. We'll sure miss all the Kenmore products. ![Big Grin](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
After the closing, where will that building go from here now that the first shoe has dropped at Stonebriar? The mall, otherwise, is doing very well with business, and it's getting a huge expansion in the form of a new Hyatt Regency hotel, slated to open sometime next year. But one anchor store will be closing. It's going to be the first one lost at Stonebriar. Who will replace it? Who will replace it?
This is where Ol' Case has a suggestion for fellow Friscoans who want to keep Stonebriar breathing.
And here it comes in 5, 4, 3, 2.......
Neiman Marcus.
Yep, them. Why not? Okay, so there's a Neiman Marcus just six miles down the Dallas North Tollway at The Shops At Willow Bend. So what? Such can also work at Stonebriar and the Sam Rayburn Tollway corridor is getting to be a hot property for both visitors and residents. Plus, Neiman's would fit Stonebriar's image and enhance its reputation nicely and keep the customer draw. Get this: many well-to-do customers from the northern suburbs would have another great shopping option that they won't have to drive all the way into Dallas for certain things they want or need. They can, instead, get it right there.
In an era where many indoor malls are losing tenants and customers, at least Frisco's Stonebriar has found a way to keep the consumer pulse going. With Sears kissing life goodbye, here's another opportunity.

Yeah, many malls are going down like shoes dropping. Wouldn't surprise me if JC Penney followed suit. If anchors can't hang on, then I don't see how these malls can survive.
It will be interesting to see Stonebriar through this trial, and only time will tell if they can keep it going.Posted 11-28-2018 at 05:15 PM by malfunction -
With the problem NM is having financially currently I don't think they will jump into a saturated NM market they have a store just down the road at Willow Bend Mall. I would think that maybe Von Maur or even Saks Fifth Avenue would be a better fit neither are in this market and it would be something new and fresh for DFW. Von Maur is growing and building new stores. Saks closed the at the Galleria 2013, but this location is further away from NM stores and in a newer lively mall.
