YouTube - Jamey Johnson - In Color (Official Music Video & Lyrics)

Im not a big fan of this video, but I am of the song. It reminds me of being a little boy and sitting on the front porch of my grandparents house, which was an old white house with a big front porch, and hearing all the stories that my grandad and his brothers would tell. We were so far out in the country, on top of Crowleys Ridge, AR, that if someone drove by you either knew them or they were lost-lol.
Most of my family on my moms side had moved to Michigan after WWII to find work, there were 10 brothers and 2 sisters, my grandad being the youngest. During the summer growing up they would have random visitors from family about every other day. Of course they would all get out the old photo albums and probably by the time I was 5 I could tell every story to go along with each picture, all black and whites of course, except for one or two of my great-grandpa that were tin-pictures.
They would talk about farming, and the best horse and mule they had, while trying to raise crops in the Arkansas Delta mud. They actually lived very close to the place written about in A PAINTED HOUSE by John Grisham, a little town that is now almost gone, called Black Oak, Arkansas.
There was the picture of my grandma when she and my grandad had first gotten married, he didnt have a car, most people around here didnt back then, so he walked for a few miles, until he came to the St Francis river and then swam across it, holding his clothes above his head, just to go see her.
Theres no telling how many miles I logged in following him around the garden, hed tell stories and work and Id follow along and try to help, and just listen. We would water the beans, shuck corn, feed the chickens, eat some cornbread and milk..He didnt even get mad the time I was 4 and decided to nail the green water hose to the front porch while he was watering the garden..with about 47 nails..

Anyway..Im rambling-lol

Arguy, I hope you write down those stories your Grampa told you..Future generations will appreciate knowing those personal stories of their family..I think present generations are made stronger if they "know" their past generations....Oh, I love it when you ramble

I just love to hear things from my parents and grandparents, about how life was for them. It's really fascinating stuff.

    Arguy,
Your blog and that video brought back fond memories of small town life in the country. I've spent most of my adult life getting away from those memories and that town, but I enjoyed the stroll down memory lane. Thanks!

what can I say that others have not said or I have not said before, simply wonderful....yes, these need to be written down....one day they should be made into book form, and handed out to each family member, what a treasure trove of information you have and I'm sure all would benefit from the knowledge...

Keep rambling. Beautiful song. I love big families and relatives popping in and out. Love that about your grandad walking and swimming all that way to see your grandma. And you following him around in the garden...
