Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Baseball: Which Players Will Be Where In '25? Altuve And A Possible Surprise

Posted 08-06-2018 at 07:10 PM by case44

There was an interesting article in MLB.com today, and it has fans pondering what players in the year 2025 would most likely still be with the team they're on currently. I'll just let you read the article for yourself, because there's a lot to think about regarding some of the game's best players.

I will tell you what they filled in for Houston's Astros, and it makes perfect sense. Come 2025, there is one player (although there could be two or three others) that certainly stands a good chance, barring any major career-threatening injuries or tragic happenings or what have you. That player is Jose Altuve. And why not? He can play in this league for about twenty to twenty-five years if he stays healthy. I cannot see him with any other franchise, as he means too much to a lot of Astros fans. So that's that about Houston. But in my title, I also mentioned the word surprise, and that regards this: The Arizona Diamondbacks are predicted to still have first baseman Paul Goldschmidt still with them. Perhaps.

But....

What if Goldy decides to don another uniform at what would be age 38? He's from the Houston area. If the Astros don't have a full-time first baseman after 2024, then Goldy would be a great candidate in the interim, if the Astros decide not to, instead, make him a designated hitter. Look, perhaps, that idea is interesting, and if Goldschmidt wants to finish his career elsewhere, then I can picture him in an Astros uniform.

While you lactate on that thought, here is the aforementioned article. Some great stuff, so we can just refer back to this in 2025 to see if our speculation panned out.

I doubt Goldschmidt will ever leave the D-Backs, as he's wildly popular in Phoenix. He's basically THE franchise guy there.
