Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Frisco's Memorial High School Is Further Taking Shape

Posted 05-07-2018 at 10:43 AM by case44

The campus is still dormant, but that doesn't mean that there's no new activity taking place. At Frisco's (Texas) Memorial High School, its new field house already has a few things going on, as the rest of the campus can't still be open to the public. The football team is getting together so that things can be sorted out regarding which position players can play this fall. Their mascot's name will be the Warriors, and the colors will be black and gold.

That's not the only thing. The principal's blog page has a listing of the new hires on the school's first faculty. Great stuff there. When we get to the month of June, the rest of the campus will begin to see more life. Memorial will actually have their first pep rally coming up in a couple of weeks, likely at a time when their transfer students will be out of school for the day. What's strange about that is this: Certain parts of the school's band are still not established yet. You need a drumline for a pep rally. Well, probably not this one. You see, the drumline tryouts won't take place until June, after that pep rally. It's possible that band director Jason Nitsch could, for now, incorporate a recording of a college band playing Memorial's fight song and alma mater, and those are expected to be revealed that day. And speaking of the Warrior band, they will have a whopping three drum majors for the school's first year. The squad leaders have also been selected. It's expected that they will have approximately 130 to 150 students in the program in their inaugural season. Besides the marching band, the program will also have three symphonic bands. Nitsch would like to include a jazz ensemble, but so far, no official word on whether they will have one yet.

Elsewhere, the faculty is taking shape. We're seeing what things will look like in the administration, the academics, the fine arts, and the other sports. Also in the offing will be the unveiling of the designs relative to the school's Warrior mascot and what the actual mascot costume will look like for football and other events. Things are starting to look up as Memorial High School's campus, dormant for one year due to budget matters, and now about to see life within its doors. At least, they won't worry about whether or not the buildings will be completed on time, as is usually the case most of the time elsewhere.

Well, one more thing, Lieutenant Columbo. That baseball field scoreboard? It's still missing the team name that goes on top. That's really the only thing Memorial still needs.
