Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Masters Site Made Me Think Of The New Byron Nelson Site

While it's a good idea that Southeast Dallas is trying to draw new business, it's questionable that it has to come at the expense of a very popular PGA golf tournament. And when the Byron Nelson yearly event was going on, it had what I believed was the perfect site for it, and that's the course at the Four Seasons Resort in Irving's Las Colinas district.

I was watching The Masters and always marveled at the well-kept, well-manicured greens at Augusta National. About a month from now, the Byron Nelson will commence once again, but this time, it will be at the new Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. I've seen the website, and the course has a lot of potential. The problem is its location, not exactly a tourist haven. Southeast Dallas has no nearby hotels, and the closest accommodations that are any good are either in downtown or in Dallas' Uptown district or along U.S. Highway 75. The closest restaurants? C. F. Hawn Freeway (U.S. Highway 175) if you like fast food or taquerias, and only because Interstate 45 just doesn't offer anything in that part of Dallas. Well, I guess you could go to the Whataburger in nearby Hutchins....

The plus side to the Trinity Forest Golf Club is that there is a lot of nature in that area, and there are lots of trees. While TFGC is not exactly Augusta (and will never be as good), it's got to give some folks out there in TV land a good first impression. Leave it to legends like Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore to design a world-class set of greens, which they did. We'll have no choice but to give the new course a chance. Players will be given time to warm up to the new course and see how it plays. In the meantime, here's a link to the new Byron Nelson site.
