Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Maybe This Thing Aroused One's Curiosity

A comment was raised in my previous post, and it brought up something that really wasn't the topic of said post, but it did pose something interesting. So, thanks to our friend shoe01, I'll let the link become the subject of this latest computer chickenscratch.

That link shoe mentioned was about a California guy from Oakland who decided to come to Texas to visit. As a matter of fact, he saw a survey taken somewhere which brought up the idea that Lubbock was voted the "Most Boring City in America" among places with sizable population. Talk about arousing one's curiosity. A California guy from what, essentially, is a very liberal part of the U.S. wondered why a place like Lubbock, located in one of the most conservative areas, was voted most boring. How could that be? Is it? So, this guy from Oakland hopped on an airplane and flew into Lubbock-Preston Smith International Airport and spent a little more than one week in the Hub City.

And he liked it!

Yes, indeed, he didn't see what the fuss was all about in the media regarding Lubbock, especially as he had taken his sweet time exploring places and things in the city, along with meeting some interesting people. For years on this very blog page, I have harped about the potential that this place has and what it has to offer, and, also, what more it could offer. I'm not going to repeat what was in that link, but this fellow saw things that a lot of locals have taken for granted just because they live there.

Here's that link in case you missed it.

Californian visits Lubbock because it is most boring

Perhaps this can be a harbinger of things to come for other travelers who venture into West Texas. Positive things. Our subject person is not the first person that really likes Lubbock. You should see a YouTube subscriber by the name of Joyce Grace, a Canadian, who also enjoyed the Hub City during her first visit to Texas. Likewise for a certain college basketball coach whom you wouldn't expect to like a place like this. Does the name Bob Knight ring a bell? Of course you do, or my username isn't whatever my username is. Heck, Coach Knight is one of the biggest endorsers of Lubbock that you'll find out there. He could easily work for the Chamber of Commerce. After sixteen years, he still calls this city home and wouldn't dream about leaving it. And maybe, just maybe, our California guy might decide to actually move here if he ever wanted to leave Oakland and the Bay Area, as Lubbock native Mac Davis would put it, "in his rear-view mirror".

It's still amazing how curiosity can lead someone to find things out.....and often get the unexpected.

It's an FM station, Jesse. Long story behind it, but it's the sister station of the FM sports channel. But 97.7 has a great play selection. I like it.
