Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Crazy Idea For A Radio Station

This grappling was kicked around the water cooler recently, but it needs now to be brought to the forefront. Through the pages of time, radio has evolved in many ways. It used to be, back in the day when radio really meant something, that call letters of stations meant everything. One example is a station in Oklahoma City that had the call letters KEBC, which stood for Keep Everybody Country. Or, perhaps, another one, WBAP in Fort Worth, which stood for We Bring A Program.

I could go through countless others, but there just isn't the space, or this writer's energy, to be able to let you know. Every avid radio listener has some kind of a story to tell about their favorite station, or one that existed where they live that had catchy meanings for call letters. One thing for certain is this: Loyalty and listenership are a big deal to make a radio station work, not to mention the hard work at the stations with the jocks, the technical staff, and the execs.

So, for this post, I decided to come up with a crazy idea for a radio station. It won't likely be airing anywhere anytime soon. But for creativity and egregious irreverence, this one takes the cake. I'd like to call this crazed effort WTF. How's that for a radio station? WTF Radio. Really. Can you just imagine the jingle that could be playing with this? I heard the stuff they play on Sirius XM's 70s on 7, and those jingles could easily fit in with WTF's plan. Yes, you know what those letters stand for, but that's the point of this.

And what would the format be?

Who knows? But that's where you've got to think, with WTF, you'd have things like bloopers, comedy, or silly stuff. Or, maybe, some skips in the records. Then again, we might actually have a music format. Eclectic? Maybe. You just never know with WTF. Perhaps it could have a sister station west of the Mississippi River called KWTF. That's because of the mandated arrangement that station call signs east of the Mississippi must begin with W, and those west of it must begin with K. Could it actually work in real life?

Well, to answer that, I would dare any radio guru to just try this for a start-up and just see how it goes.

"You're listening to WTF, the station that makes you wonder..."
