Sunday ~~ November 5, 2017 ~~ Spring forward and fall back...

The clocks change today and hopefully everyone has adjusted their clocks so they are not late to work, school, appointments or lunch tomorrow.
I have to change browsers so I'll continue this in a couple minutes.
I'm back and the only reason I wanted to change browsers is because I have spell check on one and not the other.
So, how do you spring forward? Is this the time of year you dread or look forward to? How do you fall back? I have a theory how this time of year goes along for many, keep in mind it is only my theory and does not pertain to any one specific person or group of people.
My theory starts with Halloween, many look forward to the parties, costumes, candy, decorations and preparations. Then as soon as all of that is over they immediately jump into Thanksgiving Day thoughts. Parties, candy, decorations, preparations, shopping for all items needed at the grocery, setting beautiful tables, having a house full of friends, family and incredible smells wafting through the house from all the cooking and baking and all the parades and football games. Then it is time to jump head first into the pool of the Christmas shopping season which actually starts on what has traditionally been called *Black Friday*. All the savings, shopping, parties, candy, decorations, preparations, family, friends, new clothes for all the parties, all the potluck lunches, brunch out, hours shopping for that perfect gift, credit cards dying a quick death from all the use. Then the final event of the year, New Year's Eve, another new outfit, parties, preparations, decorations, food, reservations, designated drivers, alcohol, special dates for the evening, and for many a hangover that lasts for a few days.

My theory is: with all the fussing and complaining I have heard over the years about all of the parties, costumes, candy, decorations, preparations, cost, cooking, baking, new outfits, family, friends and merry making.......

why do so many continue to participate in all the listed above? What logical, practical reason is there for this behavior?

Personally we do not participate in Halloween any longer, it is usually Mr. CSD and I on Thanksgiving, we only gift our Grandchildren at Christmas and we spend nice quiet non alcoholic New Year's Eve with each other. Our holiday season is relatively stress free, shopping free, over eating free, over drinking free, cooking free, cleaning up free, reservation free, preparation free, and quite pleasant.
We get most of the groceries we will need for the rest of the year with the exception of fresh fruit and vegetables. We do not
go into debt for gifts, we avoid any and all heavy shopping areas, we send Christmas Cards, we do not travel, we are not big drinkers of alcohol and we are quite happy with our chosen celebration non events. We do go the Friday after Thanksgiving to meet the rest of the family at cabins on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, leaving around noon on Sunday but the drive is 4 hours and we leave early enough we do not get involved with a lot of traffic on the highway and we only stop at rest areas or for gasoline if needed. Otherwise it is roughly 4 hours to drive, park on Friday and not use the vehicle again until Sunday.

Why exactly do so many who are already in too much debt go into more debt? Why exactly do so many who are *on a diet* overeat for 3 straight months then complain about gaining weight? Why exactly do so many drink too much too often and wake up with a hangover and complain about having a hangover and feeling like stepped on poo? Why do so many continue to have Uncle John and Aunt Jane over when they really do not like Uncle John and Aunt Jane?

If anyone is unhappy about something in their lives they need to make whatever changes necessary to make themselves happy, to get rid of the cost, stress, cost and annoying friends and family they really do not enjoy. One cannot control others lives but they can control their own. So what if a few feelings are hurt, so what if you have 4 less parties to attend and 12 less pounds to gain if you choose to stay home. So what if you opt out of giving everyone a gift. So what if you do not spend money on new outfits, lots of food, lots of decorations and reservations for a place you really do not want to be.

If you feel guilty it is only because you allow others to make you feel guilty, you allow others to control your emotions, you allow yourself to overeat, go into untold debt, drink too much alcohol and spend a lot of time and energy doing things you really do not want to do. To me the solution is simple, quit doing the things that do not make you happy.

It does not take a genius to change one's life, to take control of their bodies, minds, spirits, emotions, food consumption, alcohol consumption, decorations, preparations and the wearing of *last years outfit* (if you can fit into it).

My advice is to keep it simple, no debt, no gifts, no Uncle John or Aunt Jane, no gaining weight, no over consumption of alcohol, no giving control of one's entire life to others.

Try it, you may find it quite refreshing and freeing.

So, a few more thoughts to ponder if you choose to do so.
Do you keep a journal?
Do you use neo sporin?
Do you have a favorite cheesy Christmas movie?
Do you go to Midnight Mass?
Do you prefer sneakers or boots?
Do you drink coffee?

As usual I wish you restful sleep and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber.
