Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Decoration Declaration For One Of My Neighbors

Posted 10-30-2017 at 08:12 PM by case44

Somehow, I just couldn't save this next real-life item for my next Scattershooting (which, hopefully, will come up shortly and in due course), but this really couldn't wait. And this was spotted as I was pulling into the apartment after having some Texas barbecue out with dear old Mom.

It's still October, but guess what this writer spotted downstairs from my abode? Did I mention that (at this writing) it's still October? My new neighbors have already put up their Christmas tree. That's right. Let it sink in for a moment. A Christmas tree. Put up. I mean, all of the tree, decorations, lights, the whole nine yards. On October 30. We're not even at Halloween yet. Heck, the World Series isn't even over yet, and there's a Christmas tree already up in the apartment below mine.

Look, peeps, I've got nothing against Christmas, but October 30? Either they want to get a serious jump on the holidays or they're going out of town for six weeks. Most people don't even get their trees out until after Thanksgiving. I'm the same way. We've still got to get past freakin' Veterans Day, for crying out loud. I'm willing to put a Las Vegas wager on when they'll put their tree up when they decide it's time to do so.

Let's see, now, February? April, perhaps?
