Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's Vacation Journal: T-Town A Joy Once Again

Posted 10-19-2017 at 03:35 PM by case44

Tulsa had awaited my arrival, so here I am again in a great city. Lots of sunshine had been the rule of weather all week long. Oktoberfest is in full swing in one of Tulsa's parks.

And The Case is invading Nelson's Buffeteria a few more times. Can you say, "Hello, chicken-fried!"? If for no other reason than rest and relaxation, it's always good just to be in another city for a change. One thing I won't get to see is the progress being made on an innovative new city park. It's called The Gathering Place, and it's located along Riverside Drive between 21st and 41st Streets in Tulsa. The road, however, is blocked off, so I won't be able to view any construction progress. That project has been going on for a couple of years now, so I'll just have to wait at least another couple of years for its massive completion. Also stopped by the Philbrook Museum, and I marveled more at the building's architecture than I did the actual art displays. The courtyard in the back puts Tulsa's new Botanic Garden to shame, at least for now.

Tulsa's freeways are mostly complete save for some bridge work (underpasses) on some portions of Interstate 244. But, all in all, this writer is enjoying himself on this incredible fall week. Still another day here in this town before I head back to Texas.

Hope you had a better time in Tulsa than I did in Lubbock this past weekend. Trip would have been great if not for me forgetting my ticket in the car that was parked 3/4 mile fm the stadium, and then the game itself (a pay site that I subscribe to had the best reaction to it, but they might get upset if I gave it away). People didn’t quite know what they were watching.

(In much better Tech news, the new sports performance center’s interior is fantastic as I saw firsthand, and the people using it should have a good time. Should benefit the Hub City’s tourism industry as indoor track programs like Oregon, UCLA, USC, and others are scheduled to visit.) Anyway, hope you’re doing well.

Back on topic, is Tulsa growing? Would like to see it someday as it’s one of the few larger cities in neighboring states that I haven’t visited.
