My theory on LV Shooter 3

Posted 10-13-2017 at 11:28 AM by switchtoecig

continued from My Theory on LV Shooter 2

Time to introduce dr.Hare, whose life work is studying psychopaths. His book Without Conscience: The Disturbing World of the Psychopaths Among Us is an interesting read.

Paddock's personality seen in light of Hare's psychopathy checklist
Now, this list should be updated, since info is still sparse

Quote:
• glib and superficial charm
• grandiose (exaggeratedly high) estimation of self
• need for stimulation
• pathological lying
• cunning and manipulativeness
• lack of remorse or guilt
• shallow affect (superficial emotional responsiveness) -
• callousness and lack of empathy
• parasitic lifestyle
• poor behavioral controls
• sexual promiscuity
• early behavior problems
• lack of realistic long-term goals
• impulsivity
• irresponsibility
• failure to accept responsibility for own actions
• many short-term marital relationships
• juvenile delinquency
• revocation of conditional release
• criminal versatility

Now, let's revisit some of the above points:

• glib and superficial charm – his employee described him as charming, others did that too

• grandiose (exaggeratedly high) estimation of self – „I'm the biggest video poker player in the world“, million dollar is not a lot of money

• need for stimulation – definitely gambling, but he was into other adventurous activities (hunting, driving a plane)

• cunning and manipulativeness – tried to shake down a hotel because he tripped in his flip-flops in the hotel's lobby

• callousness and lack of empathy – in view of what he did, no need to explain this

• parasitic lifestyle – some may disagree (because they claim gambling is a lot of work), but basically he found a way to shake down the house and he kept doing it. (he also tried to shake down that hotel in which he tripped by pressing charges against it)

• sexual promiscuity - report of him being seen with a prostitute in the days before the shooting, there was probably more of that in his life being immersed in Vegas environment

• many short-term marital relationships - if we include Danley he had three and neither lasted long

(Unrelated to this topic someone we all know is able to fill most of this list even better, but then again, we have infinitely more info on him than on Paddock)

From CNN
Quote:
Paddock erected a solid mesh privacy screen that blocked his neighbors' view of his home. About 20 of them signed a petition, and the homeowner's association ordered him to take it down, neighbors said. The HOA refused to comment.
Neighbor Scott Smith said he couldn't understand why anyone would want to obscure a gorgeous view of the town below. "Why would you not have that lot for the view? Obviously, he wanted privacy."
Another neighbor said Paddock told her, "I don't want to be looking at people, and I don't want people looking at me."

That was probably when he started planning something large scale. He needed a ton of privacy. That lot was already rather private but he built additional wall in order not to be seen and it worked for him. Neighbors hardly saw him at all. Some of them never did.
