Feeling Sad

Tonight, I feel sad. I feel sad for my sister. She has a dog, a black lab she has loved for 18 years. He is getting old, and has a host of medical problems. She wants him to pass peacefully in his sleep, she wishes to be spared from making the decision to put him down.
We are far away from each other physically, but I know this dog. She and I lived together, and I knew him for a long time. I know her love for him, and how she saved a mangy little puppy who walked into her place of employment.
I wish I could take this from her. I wish the Universe would see fit to take him peacefully in the night. So, here is to all of us who have loved our four legged friends. And those of us who keep the vigil.
