Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Coffee Should Be Enjoyed In A Cup, Not Your Lap

Posted 04-30-2017 at 10:10 AM by case44

Restaurants are funny things. As much as I love going out to places and enjoying great food, great iced tea, and great coffee, I still get a kick out of the servers of breakfast who have a dilly of a time with the aforementioned coffee and the pot where it resides.

Gotta love them sometimes. I have had waiters/waitresses bring that morning joy in a spout, and then wildly pour the joe into the cup..........and onto the table.................aaaaaaaaaaaand, sometimes, onto my lap. No wonder some of these people call it a "splash". Now, I didn't go to Old West Café or Norma's or the Original Pancake House or some other place with wait service to take a shower in Juan Valdez' premium blend. Heck, even Maxwell House wasn't designed to be paired with Dial soap. You'd think that there'd be some manners employed therein when wait service is to pour coffee. Mom always said to be careful not to spill. Well, she didn't train a lot of these restaurant jockeys who wait tables and proceed to spill coffee on them. I just want to drink my coffee, not get baptized in it.

Am I the only cat on the block who digs biscuits and gravy? Probably not, given that I live in an apartment and given even more that I live in Texas. But to enjoy said plate of b&g, my cup of coffee ought to be consumed not through a straw from the droppings off the table, but where it should be perused: in a cup.
