Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

That's Just It: Lubbock Needs More Dreamers

The landscape might look a little different the next time I go there in two months, as opposed to the last time I was there (some four years ago), but Lubbock still needs more, much more. I've said this for years, and I'll say it again. Vision. Dreams. Ideas. Those are three things that Lubbock needs on its bucket list.

To preface, I'm not saying that they haven't accomplished anything. Far from it. Lubbock has done more in the last ten years than it's done in the previous forty. They just haven't done enough.

At least, they've got someone to help lead the charge to get that city over that big hump. And it's a big one. Hump, that is. Leading the charge is Bart Reagor, automobile magnate and Texas Tech alum, and a guy with a tremendous amount of enthusiasm. The city needs positive promoting by business leaders. And they're seeing that now as more new things are happening in parts of town that many didn't expect previously. Bart has had one vision now realized, and that's his business hub dropping anchor in a new downtown location. That's a step in the right direction.

KLBK-TV (Channel 13) had a story on their newscast a year ago, but it still holds true today. Here is how it unfolded.

Ish The Barber???

Okay.

Still, the city needs more dreamers. I'm grateful enough for Bart to stand up and take some initiative. More people dreaming the same dream, or something similar. So, the announcement was made for the College Baseball Hall of Fame no longer building in Downtown Lubbock. Hopefully, that will not keep the Hub City from pursuing other things.

This writer will be headed out there in a few moons. Wish I had some plans drawn out for them, but then, of course, they'd be too big for city leaders to digest.

Should be nice when Glenna Goodacre Blvd is complete to the west part of Downtown and the Civic Center. Should open up a corridor that didn't really exist before.
