Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Losing Points At A Hotel Chain? I Guess It's Possible

Posted 03-20-2017 at 10:05 AM by case44

Many times, when I make hotel reservations, I can be sort of a loyalist when it comes to chains. But there are times when, if I can't get a good deal with one chain or I look on the internet and the facility at that particular area is not to my liking, then I usually go to another chain to find the best deal.

I like Best Western, as that franchise is getting better with their multiple different concepts of interior and exterior designs for its hotels. Every now and then, though, I tend to stop in at a Hampton Inn (as I'm a reward member there like I am with Best Western) or a Choice Hotels stop or a La Quinta. Even if I had much more money, I'd still try Best Western if I don't have to go to one of those fancier places like Embassy Suites or The Omni. Well, here's the dill, pickle: La Quinta has me as an honor member for points and has had me as such for a number of years; however, the points I've received in recent years will be taken away if I don't take advantage of another opportunity before April 4.

Ouch. I didn't know that hotels could be that stringent.

My status with other chains is fine, but La Quinta will jettison away my points if I don't spend the night with them soon. Okay. I've looked for the least expensive deal in my area and have an excuse to get away, albeit briefly. Just one night. It won't be far from a specific getaway. And I don't really have to get too far out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area to accomplish this.

Hey, if I'm going to keep points for at least a few more years, then this is a good way to go.
