"Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;
Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;
Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font:
The firefly wakens: waken thou with me
- Tennyson

Was reading my fourth g.grandfather's diary not long ago,he talks about his father wanting him to be a surgeon,like his father and his father,instead he went for adventures on the sea,and wrote books and painted ; really well I might say.

He was also into antiquities and oral history,and wrote a little book on the oral legends of Kent.They all came from the little village of Elmstone,Kent.He talks about his daughter dying in his arms and the literary society he created.It's really a good read.

Have you seen the murmuring cottage,talk about every heavenly thing I can imagine,very British,very cosy,very simple.I like things to be cottagey but for some that seems to be loud florals and chintz,and everything busy you can think of.I have been going through a very strong British isles mood for almost a year now, it's much more mythical and sacred than the English temperament I had throughout most of my twenties.I would absolutely live off bbc costume dramas in those days,I watched nothing else, and spent months mooning over the romance of the pre raphaelites.

All of this should not surprise me when I read my fourth great grandfather's words that my family had been there; in those little villages since the reign of Queen Anne.My English roots are deep and solid.
I recall an old man appearing in my dreams who I presume to be the ancestor I've been writing about, who in the dream was rambling to me about the ancient kingdom of Wessex,which at that age I had never heard of.

Have become fond of everything cooked in nice pots,stews and soups anything where ingredients are thrown in and conjured, and this is the only type of cooking I want to do,besides baking.

Read on Tennyson yesterday afternoon,I've never read his work till now and really I want to read alot more antiquated English poetry.Interesting that he called his son Hallam after his friend,a name I always long loved.

I enjoyed reading the arms and crest he was given,the way they crossed him with other distant connected families.I love when they reach back like this as I so believe our family legends create us,and really heraldry is so intricate it is something I would like to study much more of.
