Sharks teeth hunters- listen up!

Posted 02-28-2017 at 10:50 AM by llrivero

** SHARKS TEETH HUNTERS UNITE ***
One of my addictions is hunting for fossilized sharks teeth. I have such an obsession that I find myself staring at the ground even in parking lots of developments that have brought shell in to line their flower beds and parking lots........ and it has paid off for me BIG TIME!! I have found some big ones in the least expected places!
Locals know that the beach known as "THE SHARKS TOOTH CAPITAL OF THE WORLD" is located in Venice... Caspersen Beach is considered PRIME fossilized sharks teeth hunting territory. At low tide there is a ribbon of dark sand tucked against the shells..... and here is where the obsessed sift through the glorious wet sand to claim their treasures!
However, there is another little hidden gem....... not as well known..... but now I am going to share my secret place with you. Just north of Englewood Beach..... about 3 miles up a tiny little two lane road... covered with overgrown trees making a tunnel of leaves to travel through...... is a GREAT hidden gem known as Blind Pass Beach....The parking is free...... and although the signs say the Restrooms are under renovation.....(I have yet to see anyone actually working on it, this I plan on researching further) they have YE Olde Potty Closets for you to use. This is my personal favorite when hunting for sharks teeth. This beach is hardly ever crowded...... the water is always beautiful and clear...... the sharks teeth can be picked right up from the sand....... and more often than not there is a manatee swimming with the crowd and dolphins entertain us.
Now, for you sharks teeth hunter novices.... make sure you go with the proper sifting tools. We call them Florida Snow Shovels....... but these little beauties will save your back while you shovel for the fossils! I have also seen people use colanders, screens, and their kids sifting toys.... whatever works for you...... just get out there and enjoy the thrill of finding "The One"... the coveted megladon tooth!
These teeth are fossilized, approximately 10,000 years go by to consider them fossilized. But, National Geographic has said the teeth we typically pick up on the beach are from 65,000 years ago!!! (The Cenozoic Era)......... Let that little bit of information sink in as you pick these up and take the treasures from the sea!
HAPPY HUNTING!!!!
