Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I-69 Update: RGV Sign Project Nearly Complete

Posted 01-19-2017 at 08:41 PM by case44

All I needed, in part, was a YouTube video done by one of its subscribers. He'd taken some time to put a movie camera in his car and explore the roads of the Rio Grande Valley.

Oh, he had some nice footage. Part of that excursion included runs along Interstate 2 and Interstate 69E in recent months. Great stuff, too. It was just enough evidence that significant progress had been made on TXDOT's sign upgrades, both in the assurance markers for the highways and the guide signs along same. If you take a close look at this guy's videos, then you'll see closely the guide signs now have exit numbers on them. He even has done a couple of side-street approaches to the new interstate in Brownsville and everything looks so good and so legit.

Here are the following videos of what he's done.

What he didn't cover, though, was I-69C in Edinburg, but I trust that, since that highway is only sixteen miles of interstate, that the TXDOT projects there are as substantially complete as the aforementioned. Exciting things are happening in the Rio Grande Valley. Significantly, Brownsville has the signs up (even though more work needs to be done in the central parts of the city), unlike when I visited South Padre Island a year and a half ago. Harlingen has made great progress, too.

I'll get to take a close-up look when I take my Corpus Christi vacation and plan one of my days to go two hours south.

Still ahead are new freeway miles in Bishop and Kingsville with construction happening soon just south of Robstown and around Riviera. More soon.

OK, TXDOT Pharr District, what's with the need to put the gore signs (EXIT with the arrow below it for the uninitiated) to the right of the ramp instead of in the apex where they'd normally be?

Signs, otherwise, look good. Just some strangeness with the gore signs in some locations. Travelers, you've been warned.
