Well this is my first attempt at a blog. I think I will start with general ramblings of daily interests for me and my life. Not that I think people should care about my life, but who knows something I say might help someone else. Sometimes it is nice to know you aren't alone.

ramble on....

I have a few minutes so I thought I would add a bit of something to my blog or should I say my rambling thought in writing? Or would be stream of unconscious thoughts written in ramble format? Oh well what ever it is, it is.
The other day Feb. 20th to be exact. My place of employment told the us peons that they were making cut backs but no one was losing their job. What they choose to do was cut everyone weekly hours by one full work day. So I lost 10 hour in every week. Some others only lost 8, part timers lost either 5 or 6 hours. It is actually a godsend to me since I tend to take so much time off to tend to two houses, pets and parents and even assist my sister on occasion. So having extra time to do that is great. I can survive off on 30 hours of pay a week. Just me no kids, my house payment is actually paying off my parents equity loan so that is set in stone and won’t fluctuate about which is good. My house is paid for which is also good.
The thing is I feel bad for the rest of my co-worker who are not taking it so good. I can understand entirely and the ole like “well at least you have a job” is just a slap in the face. Why is it we tend to see the worst in events such as these instead of the best. Or at least the better. I told one team mate who was upset “even though you are losing out on that money, you will certainly enjoy having that day off. I bet you will finally see why I have a 4 day work week instead of a 5 day.” My team mates always wonder why I break my neck with a 10 hour shift just to have one more day off each week. Now they will get a chance to find out.
I don’t see this as an overall good thing, the recession. Actually I think we are headed into if not already in a depression, a 21st century style of depression. We will never complete resemble the past depression but this is or will get close.
So many good things came out of that time in our past. Knowledge. A certain strength and ability of those who managed to keep going. Home gardens - I learned from my mother who as a child learned from her father who gardened during the depression and always had a garden there afterward. People learned to respect property and help each other out. Children were taught the value of money and possessions and weren’t just give gifts worth more then the family could afford.
I think America needs to have this time last long enough for everyone to once again learn. “I can’t afford that right now, so I will save until I can afford that” instead of “ I want that so I will get that even though I can’t afford it right now, that is what credit is for”. People forget that credit isn’t YOUR money you are spending someone else’s money. Somehow all that got lost over just a couple of generations. This need, desire, envy, greed, lust for things out of reach and a willingness to get it and possess it even without means to have it. If evil is anything controlling …. Such ideas and methods are based in evil.
Just food for thought I guess. Something I think on every once in a while, the greed of money and possessions equating to the evils of mankind.

It is very nice to see someone think what is going on in the job market as a good sign. I remember back in the 80's when the company I worked for in Calif. cut back our hours by first the 10 hour work days, giving us a choice of which day we wanted off. Only it soon turned into 9 hour days and a day off, but after one year things got better and we went back to normal hours and even overtime. I enjoyed my time with my daughter because on my day off she did not have to go to day care, and I saved a little money by her staying home too. The trick is not to spend money on those days off, like going to movies or out to lunch. Yes it would have been nice but then what was the point of it all? My daughter liked those days because I let her make me pancakes and we were able to walk to the beach or just be lazy and play games like Shutes and Ladders, Hungry Hippo, etg..
The part in you blog of gardens and learning or teaching kids respect is long over due again, I really think all these new lazy short cuts have people forgetting why they work in the first place.
