Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Perhaps We Can Open Up The Answering Machines
Could it be that some radio deejays are simply getting tired of talking to listeners? I know that sounds weird, but you'd be amazed that it's actually happening, at least on the surface. On one program, unless this writer's overreacting, it could just be that a radio jock can be innovative enough to balance out the chatter and use different ideas to draw listeners to a program.
Whatever the reason, you can see that radio shows like the one that radio legend Cousin Brucie hosts on Saturday, which had been heavily reliant on listener phone calls. That's live listener phone calls. Recently, however, Bruce Morrow has been doing something different on his Saturday Night Party on SiriusXM's 60s on 6. For the first two and a half hours, all of his callers call in the show live on the phone to give The Cuz their requests for songs to be played on air. But for a 45-minute stretch thereafter, the calls that air are all put in an answering machine and the listeners talk for a minute or so while giving their requests for the program. Look, I'm not complaining; I'm just observing and noticing things.
Not sure if Morrow is doing this because he is 81 and showing his age. I can't speak for The Cuz, because he really loves his listening audience. I'll admit that it is comical to hear Brucie attempting to talk to his answering machine listeners to make it look like he's talking to them.
Can you imagine Morrow on the radio saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, we're going into our all-request hour, and I'm going to open up the pho-o-o-omes.............and turn on the answering machine for you to leave your request and anything else with me, cousins...."?
Although I doubt he'll actually tell you about a message machine, I did notice on yesterday's (Saturday, December 17) show that he did not do that, and that his late listeners were talking to Brucie live, just before his Love Hour Hour Half Hour. And, on a side note, this past Wednesday, he told listeners that his all-request hour (the third hour of his Cruisin' program) would begin in 5 minutes............., except that the time was thirteen minutes before the top of the hour.
Sad that The Cuz can't tell time anymore.
Perhaps he is showing his age. But who's to say?
Maybe I can leave Morrow a message....

Just saw a clip of Cousin Brucie on YouTube, and it was circa 1964. The mists of time. Can you believe that this guy has been on the radio for nearly six decades? I think he's been on longer than anyone.
