Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Will We Have An Actual Winter In Texas?

Posted 11-12-2016 at 07:45 PM by case44

I just looked at a bit from the National Weather Service and my forecast at the end of next week is calling for a pretty strong cold front. It's expected to hit the area by next weekend, and we just might see temperatures falling into the 30s for lows.

After looking at that, I got to thinking: Last winter, my area saw temperatures go below 30 just one time. One. All last winter. No ice, no nothing. Didn't kill any bugs. Mother Nature was kind to us and unaccommodating at the same time. Santa Claus might have go to buy some Coppertone just before coming down here.

Can North Texas have another winter like the last one? Well, the last one wasn't even a hint of winter. We'd just gone from fall to spring. Time will tell on the answer to that fateful question. Personally, I'd much rather it be March right now, but I do want to enjoy the holiday season. We also do need to kill some bugs before we get to spring, but I believe it can be done without people getting icicles on their goose bumps. Guys like me would never make it in places like Cleveland or Boston or Chicago or even Fargo with winters like they get. Makes me proud to be in the Sun Belt, where our winters are generally mild and you can at least move around a little.

Oh, and go ahead and crack the windows open when that front arrives if you like. A little cool air now and then is okay.

Considering how much winter never really came last year, any cold winter at this point would be welcome.
