Now you ask about American dishes; remember America is very diverse, with people living here from all over the world, thus much of our food is the America version of foreign foods. When I think strictly American, I think stew in the winter and grilled foods in the summer. I think the latest trend is roasting veggies: I am guessing this is very American.
Maybe you are right!! The USA is composed of many peoples and your haven't a real American cuisine, but a mixed cuisine.
