Will it get some of those things in the future.. I bet so but something to consider.

*nashville has a lot going for it but it's not seeing the explosive growth that Austin is.. and even with its claim to fame in country music- and with multiple pro sports it doesn't currently have the feel of the next "big" city. It feels and acts like a sleepy mid tier sized city IMO.

*denver has a really good shot at it because it's not located near any other hub in the country really. It already has pro spots and many other big city amenities. It's not on a crazy growth spree like austins been on for what seems like ever but it has a good chance.

*minneapolis has the same in terms of already having a lot of big city amenities and a location that's secluded from other cities however it has a few problems in terms of becoming the next "big" city. The first one can't be changed and is probably the biggest thing for it to overcome.. its weather. In terms of growth/development/and so on this hurts. People are flocking to the south to escape the cold not north to go somewhere even colder then most of the country. And 2 its rival st.paul. Now 2 could hurt or help its chances depending on how you look at it.

*Portand seems like it's the furthest away from being a big city. It does have some things going for it in already in terms of some decent public transportation, steady growth and some decent amenities. But again it's missing some of those big city amenties, not sure the growth is there to overcome the other cities in this list, lacks pro sports, and has more of a hippie/sleep city vibe then a hub.

Phoenix is honestly a pleSent surprise. We drove through Arizona so I didn't spend much time there but the city was really nice from what I saw and the highways couldn't be better maintained and landscaped. Has great growth. Has tons of big city amenities. Affordable city. But climate is An issue for some- not sure how water will play a role in Phoenix's future.

Actually Denver, fueled by those leaving the west coast and the energy sector, has been growing well. Housing prices are way up.
