Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

The Unexpected At Work: Possible Second Chance?
Posted 09-09-2016 at 12:05 PM by case44
A couple of days ago, before I was to have a bowl of chili with my brother at Tolbert's in Grapevine, TX (You should try that place, folks ---- Legendary! ), a situation happened at work that I never really would have expected.
It started a month ago, when I applied for a day position in Customs Brokerage at my place of business. The ensuing interview went great, but I ended up edged out by one person wishing to change his schedule and who had already been experienced in that department. So, Wednesday morning, I had decided to try again by dangling an application for a night position in the same department, since I thought that, as positions become available, I'd like to get trained there as soon as possible. A few hours after that, one of the head honchos in Brokerage said that a day position had become open, but it was not on my company's website. My manager came to me about it, but I could not find it. Turns out that the position that's opening up was the very position which I had originally applied for earlier, as it became, well, open. That's right, sports fans: This Brokerage position, previously filled with someone else, has opened up again! Not sure what happened on the other side, as said applicant must have changed his/her mind. No matter, though. This writer just saw a second chance coming up. I had a chance to chat briefly with the head of that department and he said that, while the position won't be made public online, as it's closed, he's going to offer an interview opportunity to me, as well as a few others in his department who might be even remotely interested in same.
How about them apples? A second chance.
That means this: If I get edged out after the first interview, then that means I've got a real good shot now. To be fair, they're asking me for a second interview. Since I already have met the people there, it shouldn't be difficult to get through the process. What I want now is for this process to have finality with me so that I can begin the transition phase at my company. The next three weeks are going to be interesting.
I did tell you folks about a vacation that I've planned for the end of September, right? Well, things could change, either in part or in whole, depending on whether I get the new job or not, and when the training begins should I be given and me having accepted same. There's also going to be a 2-week notice that I must also present in my current department (Dispatch, in case anyone's forgotten) should I accept the position. It's all going to depend on when the final decision gets made and how long the evaluations and deliberations take place.
Stay tuned to this blog page as your writer will fill you in on the very latest. Good stuff possibly happening here.
