Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

I-69 Update: Mile Markers In Houston? Yep
Not much new on the Interstate 69 front, but on a recent trip to Houston, I saw an interesting development. And I know I haven't seen this before.
On the Eastex Freeway, I noticed some mile markers for the first time, and curiously, the mileage figures that were put on them are about the actual distance on I-69 / U.S. 59 from Victoria, which will be the convergence point of I-69E and I-69W into I-69. So, the concept is starting to get clearer now. Since I-69 won't be like I-35, in that the interstate will begin from three places whereas I-35 begins as one in Laredo, and then splits up in Hillsboro to traverse separately through Dallas and Fort Worth before rejoining in Denton. With 69, the fork goes into one at Victoria. There will be no continuance from either E or W, and the mile markers (and, thus, the associated future exit numbers) will start over at Victoria and march eastward to Houston, and then on to East Texas.
What hasn't been answered is why TXDOT is using the old font on those mile markers: What's up with all that??
In the Rio Grande Valley, they are using the new font, but in Houston, they aren't. Interesting. From what I remember, the numbers I saw north of the I-610 Loop were 135, 136, and so forth, so you can get an idea of what said exit numbers will likely be for the mile postings in the approximate areas. I think I might have seen a few on the Southwest Freeway portion, but didn't get a good look.
More news on this later on.

Who would have thought that Exit 0 of I-69 would be in Victoria? Neither E nor W will be mainlines. How about that?
