Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

People Around Me Are Dying - And It's Still One Out Of One
Posted 08-26-2016 at 08:43 AM by case44
Some old philosopher once pointed out that one out of every one person dies. Well, we all know that that's true. And there's no exception to this point, given the events that some of my co-workers have experienced in the last week.
My work supervisor just lost her uncle. My dispatch manager just buried his father, and that situation happened suddenly. And my regional manager's father is critically ill and may not last much longer. And that's not even all; one of the independent contractors who once worked with us recently had his leg amputated, and then just died this week from a heart attack when he was going to get a stress test. All this ---- within one week!
And that's still not everything.
A month ago, one of the other drivers flirted with death when he had a sudden heart attack, but thankfully, he survived it and has already come back to work, but will have to take it easy. It just seems people around me are going, even though I don't know them, they're connected to people I do know. Luckily, none of my co-workers have had to deal with health problem of late.
One out of every one person dies. I believe it, and it is real.
Life is short, folks. Embrace it. Embrace it hard.
