My Black Widow Scarecrow

About the only bugs I ever see in my house are crickets and those little wall spiders, and for the most part they stay in the basement. Every once in a while one comes up the steps and gets into my kitchen. I came up with an idea one day when I found an old spool of clear thread that was soft as silk in a junk drawer. I made a large circular spider web using my dartboard as a pattern. I glued all the threads in place making the web like a bullseye. I then got a little hunk of wood and grinded it into a bulb-like shape and glued thin toothpick-sized strips of wood for the legs. I added the face using very small pieces of wood and painted it jet black. I added the red hourglass spot on the back with red model paint. When it was dry I glued the spider to the web and hung it from the ceiling above the basement steps by using white tacks that matched the color of the ceiling. It looks like the real thing, especially when you first spot it. I forgot about it until my nephew came over to borrow my torque wrench, I sent him down there and he let out a holler. I haven't seen any bugs since I put it up, they're probably all under the cabinets laughing their butts off.
