A Stress Free Weekend

I remember the long days of summer from when I was a kid, those three months give or take a week being out of school seem to last forever. Now its like I blink twice and summer is almost over. I used to divide summer into halves. Memorial day was the start, and the 4th of July meant it was half over. Usually it meant that baseball for me would be over too.
Saturday I had one of those "Summer days." I took my BIL's jeep home Saturday after work. Its the kind where you need a step ladder to get into it. No top on it of course
After convincing my wife I hadnt lost my mind and traded my truck for it (after telling her I did) We all hopped in and went for a short ride.
Sunday we did the same thing, but longer this time, it was really nice, no clocks, no timetables. We took the backroads until we crossed into Missouri. We saw a few deer, quite a few snapping turtles, and lots of ducks. The only reason to turn around was that the gas gauge on the jeep didnt work. I really didnt want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere cause I had ran outta gas.
After driving around fish ponds and rivers the kids decided they wanted to go fishing. So we went home, got the fishing poles and some good ole nasty stink bait and red worms.
The place we went to had several ponds, all real close together. We hadnt been there 5 minutes until I heard a "DADDY!"
A baby goat had wondered up behind my daughters chair. I told her to stick her hand out and pet it, but it was more interested in eating her potato chips and nibbling on her barbie chair.
I dont think I fished for 5 minutes, I was too busy baiting hooks and untangling "tree bass", but It was a great afternoon. One where you are living with no sense of time. Its was one of those days where you take mental pictures, Im beginning to understand why my grandad used to just "watch" now.

I love the simple things in life like your Saturday Arguy..Those memories are the most precious later, when a certain smell, or the way the breeze carries a childs laugh, bring pleasant memories of long ago..Priceless..

What a wonderful family weekend! My husband likes to take us on wandering drives too. One of his favorite things. It's nice to wander and look around and just talk. Glad you had such a nice time.

We all need a lot more days like these. Life is to short not to take the time out to enjoy it. Good job.

thank you arguy, you brought back memories of my time as a child, my dad loved to just get us all into the car and drive, never did we know where we would end up. I had the priviledge of seeing dams in Alabama, the great Smokie's, state parks, much of the Natchez Trace Parkway and much more from our lazy drives. How I miss those days of such carefree abandon and enjoyment. You gave me a slice of that life via your weekend, so again, thank you.

Arguy, Your writing really makes me yearn to be younger. lol I miss the memories too. Spending all day in a sandbox or swimming. Then letting the night take us away with a campfire. Summer memories.
