Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Astros Rising Fast In The AL West
Posted 07-08-2016 at 10:40 AM by case44
Just when I thought the Houston Astros couldn't recapture last year's magic when the season began, here they are now in second place in the American League West race. Things are beginning to look up once again.
At the end of April, the 'Stros were 7-17, but then again, this franchise is notorious for slow starts. Since the beginning of May, they've gone 39-23 and have cruised past Seattle, Los Angeles, and Oakland. And lately, the Texas Rangers have had a solid lead in their division, but their pitching has gone south against the Boston Red Sox in their latest series, so Houston has gained some ground in the standings.
If they can get continued improved performances from starting pitchers Dallas Keuchel and Collin McHugh (aces last year but slow starts this season) in the second half, and if the offense keeps up making clutch hits to manufacture runs, then you can see Houston becoming a force to be reckoned with and the up-and-coming contender that people have been expecting after three years of top draft picks. The Astros, potentially, are a dynasty in the making. They're not there yet, but it's close.

Will Harris and Jose Altuve were selected as All-Stars. George Springer may be next.

Nice comeback win for the Astros on Friday night after blowing a 3-run lead in the ninth. How about that Luis Valbuena? 3-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to win, 10-9.

Second half begins for Houston tonight. They begin with the Mariners. Can the 'Stros overtake the Rangers and get to the top of the division? We will find out really soon.
