Today is the first day of Winter in Scottsdale. The 115 heat is like the first day of snow. You look around and realize all the snowbirds have become sunbirds, leaving Arizona for cooler weather. You can't go outside without shoes, grass and trees look dead, everyone is making sure they have provisions should they get trapped in their car for any period of time. Up North you don't want to touch anything metal for fear you might get stuck. Here you don't want to touch anything metal for fear you might get burnt. Instead of heating bills going up you can expect your electric bill to go up. You go out to the garage and turn the air-conditioner on in your car rather than having to warm it up. Instead of eating hot foods and drinking warm cider we are looking for anything light and cold. It seems we also eat less during the heat. Mama's aren't bundling their kids up. They are dressing them down and waiting for nightfall to get in the pool. June to the beginning of September is just a good time to stay inside, watch some movies and wish for October.
Winter! It's official.
