Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Understanding A Fax Machine: Did You Copy?

Posted 05-11-2016 at 04:17 PM by case44

It isn't even supposed to be complex. All I needed to do was fax four papers to another dispatch office after my shift ended on Tuesday. One of these days, I might understand certain components of a fax machine, but right now, I don't.

What only needed to take five minutes to accomplish had actually taken ten. I had to use two fax machines until one of the leads told me that one of them was broken and cannot be used. There was no sign telling me not to use it, so I thought it'd be okay. Anyhow, I put the necessary papers in the glass and typed in the number, chose Yes for going through the glass, and then it said Another Page? (Yes or No). Okay. ????? I'm sending one page at a time, so why am I seeing the Another Page? option? Do I type in Yes or No? Probably No. So it lets me proceed. Going back and forth between machines to make sure that all pages would be sent smoothly, but one machine was broken. So, then, I had to go to the one fax machine which was working and start over with two of the papers there.

After checking with the Atlanta office, I finally had to make sure everything they needed was sent. They finally were, but it was a huge ordeal. Technology. Can't live with it. Can't live without it.

When I moved from CA to TN in 88 the realtor wanted me to fax paperwork for the sale of our home in CA. I got to TN and no one knew what a fax machine was. Finally someone knew of a single business in town that had one of them newfangled things. Now they're scarce as hen's teeth again but for a different reason! And time rolls along.
