Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Respite Time: I'll Hit The Road -- But For Just One Day

Posted 05-05-2016 at 07:57 PM by case44

My next vacation (which will be a staycation this time around) is still under a month away, but I won't let it stop me from taking a brief road trip.

Just for tomorrow, I'll just venture off to Tyler, Texas, for a drive. Come daybreak, I'm burning rubber (quietly, of course) on my way to Buc-ee's in Terrell for fuel, and then off to East Texas for a change of scene and two good places to eat. I will hit Sweet Sue's breakfast buffet, followed by lunch a few hours later at a place I've never tried but have been meaning to. That place is Daniel Boone's Grill, where I'm fascinated by their online menu. What will I be trying, you ask? The one-pound ground beef steak with mushroom and onion gravy. I also want to try their flamebroiled, barbecued chicken, but I'll save that for a future visit.

Tyler, TX, it's time for Case to visit you once again. Just the therapy I need to get away from reality for just a little bit.

The risk you take with buffets: The food sometimes gets cold. Sweet Sue's didn't have too many customers at 8 a.m., and the buffet began at 6. They also changed the hash brown recipe, as it's now just fried sliced potatoes. Oh, well....

Bacon was okay, sausage pretty good. Good scrambled eggs but better fresh. Biscuit was good, and their CFS is marvelous.

Tyler's a fantastic town. Square is as good as ever, but because of allergy attacks within the last week, I decided not to stop by the Rose Garden. I'll be making another day trip on my next vacation and will do it then.

And Daniel Boone's was good, too. Wonderful onion rings and that big beef patty with the gravy hit the spot, as well. I want to try the barbecued chicken next time.
