Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

There's Nothing Wrong With Diversity - It's Just About Priorities

Posted 04-23-2016 at 07:51 AM by case44

It's pretty safe to say that America has gone downhill for about five decades or so, what with eroding values, divorce, broken families, high crime rates, corruption, what have you. You can just look all around you and see that some of the things that made America the greatest nation in the world are constantly and brazenly under attack (religious freedom, individualism, voting rights, etc). They're everywhere, from crooked politicians to Hollywood's influences to the music industry's influences, and so forth.

We've always been a nation that gives people -- and has given people -- the opportunity to live a better life. Many folks who've come here had to escape the slavery and bondage forced on them by big government and communism. The important thing is this: We Americans cannot forsake doing things the right way, nor can we afford to. Such is the case with our immigration policy, also under attack, particularly by militant left-wing politicians. There's nothing wrong with having diverse groups of people in the United States; we just need to follow the correct process for letting people in so that illegal aliens can actually become legal. But there also has to a color-blindness in America. Left-wingers like to focus on the color of one's skin, which they believe is more important than job qualifications or criminal records or reputation. It seems anymore that the left is attacking the white population, all the while accusing conservatives of being "racist" when such is not really the case at all. It is actually the liberal crowd who happens to be racist. As much as the liberals say about promoting diversity, they routinely don't practice it because they discriminate against those with whom they disagree. In doing so, they succeed in hypocrisy. Politics aside, we appreciate diversity with different people and a wide range of opinions. If we were all the same, then it would be a boring world.

We must also remember this: In America, if you come here to live here, then you must assimilate with us here. We're not going to change gears to fit another country's culture. You are free to celebrate whatever culture that you had in the place you previously lived on an individual basis, but a lot of the rest of us can choose not to. We are Americans first. Our country still waves Old Glory. The 4th of July is still celebrated each year, as it is our nation's birthday. There are a lot of uniquely American traditions, some big and others small, that we take part in varying times of the year. We take time to remember our veterans, whether perished in action or still living (Memorial Day and Veterans Day). Many people celebrate Easter and Christmas, but others choose not to for one reason or another. Several of us Americans are Jewish, and there are holidays that serve a certain purpose there. And we all gather at the table to give thanks on Thanksgiving Day. And we're all going to have our likes and dislikes. Some folks like certain types of music, and others like something else. Also, our taste buds are different, and you can easily say that no politician can ever legislate that. Some of us like Texas barbecue, and others......., well......

In this nation, we do embrace diversity. It cannot, however, keep us from securing the borders (which we still must do) and protecting all people from harm and terror trying to creep into our land (the seeds of which this nation's current president is trying to sow before he leaves office). Our world is not a perfect one, and it never will be, but we can be thankful for the most precious thing God ever has given anybody: life.
